Reminiscences of the 2007 season
Getting our precious site hacked by a crazed Lithuanian was one mighty original way to start the 2007 season. The cricket didn’t start of too promisingly either, as I remember. And then again maybe I’m being too harsh as our first match was away to arch-rivals Strasbourg and eight of our small pool of players managed to make the effort to get themselves up that motorway. Which was pretty encouraging really even though we lost and didn’t have a great day. It was cold, grey and dampish plus we all hated their artificial match laid over a very bumpy surface. I don’t have the score cards (Strasbourg CC have never sent them on) and my memory is not what it was so I can’t recall any individual exploits of bravado or foolhardiness. I do remember though that we were more then comprehensively beaten by 70 odd runs….
We experienced a few more low points in the first half of the season. The extremely low turn-out for the Ormes Sixes Tournament was one and the forced cancellation of our own was another. But, despite these, an air of optimism was definitely about. Several practices were held and enjoyed, new players (Abi, Krishna and Andy) were welcomed and we met some new friendly opponents (The Luxembourg Optimists, Lille and Lyon CCs) who’ll hopefully provide great matches for many seasons to come. ..click on link below to read on...
Montbard/Lille vs. Lyon September 23. Match Report
As you all know, we don’t usually play on Sundays - too many of our members are unavailable that day. Yet, here we were in Montbard on a Sunday with so many potential players that not all could play! Granted, we weren’t all Montbardois (or whatever we should call ourselves) but, even so, we were that many that it has to be called mighty encouraging for the future.
Amazing ! A dry day in Burgundy. The sun shone. The outfield was mown – sort of. The spectators (our herd of Charollais) were in place. The TGVs whizzed past and by 2.30 most of the players had arrived. Unfortunately, due to injuries and other happenings, only eight players were there to represent the MCC. Our opponents, from Lyon, had come with ten.
